Joe Walsh the amazing lead guitar player for the Eagles. Joe Walsh overcame his addictions and is still on top of his game.

Joe Walsh, born Joseph Fidler Walsh was born November 20, 1947 in Wichita, KS. He is best known for his edgy guitar style and driving lead riffs. He’s played with several famous bands as well as having a long solo career and many sessions with such famous musicians as B.B. King and Dan Fogelberg. Walsh has an amateur radio license with the call sign of WB6ACU and he attended Kent State University from which he received an honorary doctorate in music in 2001. In 1974 his baby Emma was killed in an auto accident in Colorado while on her way to nursery school.

In 1971 he joined the James Gang before going on in 1975 to join The Eagles. Walsh gave them a more edgy sound and moved them away from their country sound. They were together until 1981 at which time Walsh began his solo career again. In 1989 he toured with Ringo Starr and then in 1990 he joined The Best and toured with Keith Emerson formerly of Emerson, Lake and Powell, John Entwhistle and Simon Phillips from The Who and Jeff Baxter from The Doobie Brothers. Then in 1994 he reunited with The Eagles for the Hell Freezes Over Tour.

Walsh has had to struggle with addictions to alcohol and cocaine but upon reuniting with The Eagles he had to make a solemn vow of sobriety and has been in recovery since 1995. He speaks out openly about his addiction and encourages others to avoid substance abuse and seek help if they are abusing drugs and alcohol. He has become very interested in Buddhism and Western Philosophy. Interestingly enough Joe Walsh ran for “mock” President in 1980 saying his campaign song would be Life’s Been Good and he promised free gas for all. He ran again for Vice-President in 1992.

Some of his best known songs are Funk #49, Walk Away, Rocky Mountain Way, Life’s Been Good as well as collaborating on In the Long Run. In 1998 The Eagles were inducted into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame. Joe Walsh is a funny and interesting man and has had quite a prolific career amongst some of the most talented musicians in the business. His guitar styling’s are some of the most recognizable amongst the great guitar players of the last century with a unique and edgy drive. It’s hard not to admire a person who can overcome addiction and still be on top of his game.
