1. Dylan McDermott was born in 1961, in Connecticut.

2. His full name is Mark Anthony McDermott.

3. The name Dylan comes from his ex stepmother. According to imdb.com, she adopted Dylan when she was 26, and he was 18. She was planning to name her own baby Dylan, and when she had a miscarriage, Mark changed his name to Dylan.

4. He stands at 6' (1.83 m).

5. He lost his mother when he was five. She was accidentally shot by her boyfriend.

6. He was married to actress Shiva Rose for 13 years (1995-2008). They have 2 kids together.

7. He dated Steel Magnolias co-star Julia Roberts.

8. He is most famous for his lawyer character Bobby Donnell - the starring character of the legal drama The Practice. Bobby is a criminal defense lawyer and runs a law firm with several other lawyers who often take very challenging cases.

9. In 1999, he won Golden Globe (for Best Performance by an Actor in a TV series- drama), for his performance in The Practice. He was nominated 2 other times for the same role (in 2000 and 2001).

10. He was nominated for Emmy (for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series) for his role in The Practice series, in the same year he won Golden Globe.

11. His character Bobby O’ Donnell made an appearance in another legal-themed show, Ally McBeal. He appeared in two episodes. Both shows were created by David E. Kelly (husband of actress Michelle Pfeiffer).

12. The leading character of the legal drama/comedy series Boston Legal, Alan Shore (played by James Spader), was originally a guest character on The Practice. Alan Shore appeared in 22 episodes of The Practice.

Boston Legal was also created by David E. Kelly, and went on for 5 seasons.

Even though James Spader was nominated for Golden Globe for his Boston Legal role, yet failed to win, he won Emmy 3 times- as opposed to McDermott who won Globe but not Emmy for his The Practice character.

13. In 2009 and 2010, he starred in the crime series Dark Blue as Carter Shaw.

14. He appeared in an episode of the sitcom Will & Grace as Will’s love interest.
