Celebrities That We Lost in May of 2012

Continuing with my series of celebreties that we lost in 2012 here is a list of those celebreties big and small that passed away in May of 2012. This article includes the age of the person at the time of death, the cause of death, their contribution to the entertainment industry and their age at the time of death.

Continuing with my series of celebreties that we lost in 2012 here is a list of those celebreties big and small that passed away in May of 2012. 

Doc Watson:  Doc Watson was a Grammy Award Winning Folk artist.  He was a blind musician who was known for his very quick ability to quick flatpicking a guitar.  He died a few days after having abdominal surgery.  He died on May 29 and was 89 years old.

Robin Gibb:  Part of the duo he sang with for years the Bee Gee's a group he formed with 2 of his brothers.  His death was announced on May 20th.  He had advanced colorectal cancer.  He was 62 years of age. The Bee Gees were very popular during the late 60's and early 70's and were a major part of the Disco Era. The Bee Gee's became very popular after they did most of the music for the album for Saturday Night Fever starring John Travolta.  The received an Oscar Nominatin for that album.  They were also Grammy Winners and received a Grammy Legend Award in 2003.

Donna Summer: The Queen of Disco.  It was very shocking to hear of the death of Donna Summer as she looked fantastic for her age. She passed away at the age of 63 but could have easily passed for a woman in her 40s.  Summer was also a large part of the Disco Era with hit songs such as Last Dance.  She passed away on May 17th.  She died of lung cancer although she herself did not smoke.  She had 5 Grammy Awards to her credit. 

Mitchell Guist:  He was a reality TV star on the show Swamp People.  Although exact cause of death was not released Guist fell while on his boat in May 14th. He was found later and taken to the hospital.  It is unclear weather or not he died on the boat or if he died later at the hosptial that day.  He died just a few days short of his 48th birthday. 

Vidal Sasoon:  Vidal Sasoon was a famous British Hairstylist who went on to create a very popular line of hair care products.  Commercials for his products coined the phrase "Uh La La Sasoon." He was also credited for creating the hairstyle the Bob Wedge.  His products were salon worthy products that could be bought by anyone.  He passed away at 84 years of age of Natural causes on May 9th.

Maurice Sendeck:  He was the author of my favorite children's book Where the Wild Things Are.  He died on May 8th at the age of 83.  He passed away in the hospital a few days after having a stroke. 

George Lindsy:  Fans of the Andy Griffith show will remember George Lindsay as the guy who played the beloved character Goober, the character Goober also appeared on the Gomer Pile television show as well. He was also one of the main actors on the show Hee Haw.  He passed away on May 6th at the age of 83.  Lindsy had been ill but the illness has not been disclosed. 

Adam Yauch:  Yauch was a member of the group the Beastie Boys which was a rock/rap combination group.  His nickname was MCA.  Although the exact cause of his death was not disclosed he did suffer from cancer.  He was only 47 years old when he passed away on May 4th.
