Celebreties We Lost in August of 2012

There were over 180 celebrety deaths in 2012. Not all were major celebreties of course but all of these people had some significant contribution to the entertainment business. In order to honor these people and yet not drag on with an extremely large article I am breaking up the celebrity deaths by the months that they occured. The article includes what that person's contribution was, the age of the death, the date, and the cause of death. article

Chris Lightly:  Lightly was a Hip Hop manager.  He managed notable hip hop stars such as Missy Elliot and 50 Cent.  He died of an apparent suicide at the young age of 44 on August 30th.

Steven Franken starred in the television series The Many Lives of Dobie Gillis he played Chatsworth Osborne Jr.  He also did guest appearances on several other television shows.  He was 80 years old when he passed away on August 24th of this year.  He died of cancer. 

Neil Armstrong:  Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon and of course he was an astronaut.  He passed away at the age of 82 on August 25th.  He died from complications from a coronary artery bypass surgery.

Jerry Nelson:  Nelson was a voice artist for several muppets on Sesame Street the most well known voice he did was that of one of my favorite characters, The Count and Mr. Snuffleupagus.  He passed away at the age of 78 on August 24th.  He died from complications from cancer and respitory disease. 

Tony Scott:  Tony Scott was a very well known director.  He directed such large box office movies as Top Gun and the Last Boy Scout as well as many others. He also had an honorable television and commercial career.  He died at the age of 68 by committing suicide by jumping off of the Vincent Thomas Bridge on August 19th.  There was a lot of speculation about his death and some thought he may have been suffering from a deadly disease but it was allegedly found that this was not true. Although there were suicide notes they did not really explain why he committed suicide.  There were several witnesses and it was said that there was no hesitation when he jumped. 

Joey Kovar: Kovar was a reality TV star he was on both the Real World Hollywood and Celebrity Rehab. Cause of death is yet unknown he was found in his apartment on August 17th.  Kovar had a long term history with drug abuse.  He was just 29 years of age. 

Phyllis Diller: Phyllis Diller was a very famous long time comedian.  Dillar helped open up the world of Stand Up Comedy to women and she had a very quick wit, she loved to make fun of her own looks..  She died at the age of 95 on August 20th.  Diller died peacefully in her sleep. 

Robert Wayne Birch:  Birch was Elton John's guitar player. He died at the age of 56 of an apparent suicide on August 15th.

Ron Palillo:  Best known as Arnold Horshack on the television show Welcome Back Kotter. He passed away on August 14th of a heart attack at the age of 63.

Mel Stuart:  Stuart was a director best known for Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. He died at the age 83 of cancer. 

Judith Crist:  Judith Crist was a film critic for TV Guide, the today show and notable newspapers.  She was called the most hated movie critic.  She was the first full time female critic.  She died in her home at the age of 90.  Exact cause of death was not released.

Stuart Swanlund:  Swanlund was the guitarist for the rock band The Marshal Tucker Band. He died at the age of 54 of natural causes and passed away in his sleep.
