Diane Keaton, One of the Truly Great Actors of Our Time

Diane Keaton an actor not to be overlooked. Diane Keaton one of the greatest actors of our time.

Diane Keaton was born on January 5, 1946 in Los Angeles, CA. She was born with the name Diane Hall but when she joined the Actor’s Guild she had to find a different name and chose Keaton. Her nickname is Annie and she is one of the most eclectic, Bohemian actors of our time. She makes her own rules and apologizes to no one for her life and her choices, whether it be dress, acting style, or staying single her entire life, choosing not to marry, because frankly being married would be far too conventional for her and would be too compromising. She is an actor to be admired for her acting skills as both a comedic and a serious actor.

She began her career on Broadway, first appearing on stage in “Hair”. She played in other Broadway roles before moving on to screen with a part in “The Godfather” in 1972. She went on to play in “Looking for Mr. Goodbar” in 1977 for which she received a Golden Globe Award. “Looking for Mr. Goodbar” is an examination of the singles dating scene and some of the absolute extreme consequences that can occur when you pick up a stranger at a bar. She has played very memorable roles in great movies such as “First Wives Club” in 1996, “Something’s Gotta Give”, “Father of the Bride” in 1991 and “Mad Money”.

Besides being a talented actor she has made a profession out of still photography with the release of her collection of photos “Reservations” in 80 which got high praises from the critics. She has also stepped into the role of director when she directed “Unsung Heroes” in 95 which was well accepted amongst her peers. Diane has had a lifelong dream of being a singer but has said her voice isn’t good; however, she had a small singing role in “Hair”. Another cool factoid about Diane Keaton is unlike so many of her counterparts she opposes plastic surgery, choosing rather to age gracefully.

She has dated men such as Woody Allen, Warren Beatty, and Al Pacino. To this day she is still great friends with Woody Allen and they still hang out together. She chose not to get married and decided to live by her own terms rather than compromise. She did; however, start a family at 50 when she adopted first Dexter, a girl by the way, in 96, followed by Duke in 2001. She said she decided to adopt after the death of her father because she loved “being a daughter” and realized what a humbling experience motherhood is.

Diane Keaton is a one-of-a-kind gem that has at times been over looked. It’s impossible to over look her strength, zeal, distinctiveness and not fall in love with some of her zany, insecure characters. She will definitely go down in history as one of the great comedic actors of our time!

Wonderful review of an all-time favorite actor. I love Diane Keaton for all the same reasons you have mentioned. And, I respect her for not caving in to the Holloywood norm of botoxing and "nip-n-tuck"-ing everything; she looks natural and beautiful.
